Why would Dominick Davi of Greenway Products & Services, LLC pledge to shave his head? No it’s not just to make a new fashion statement! He’s doing it because he’s helping kids with cancer and showing his support of St. Baldrick’s Foundation, an organization whose objective is to conquer childhood cancers. “Every two minutes a child is diagnosed with cancer. I want to fund the research that will save their lives,” Dom says.
More children are lost to cancer in the U.S. than any other disease. In fact more children are lost to cancer than any other diseases combined. Some one in 285 children in the U.S. will have cancer before they turn 20. In the 1950s, almost all kids diagnosed with cancer died. But today, because of research, about 90% of kids with the most common type of cancer will live. Still for many other types, progress has been limited, and for some kids there is still little hope for a cure.
Because more adults than kids get cancer, governments and foundations typically fund more research for adult cancers. St. Baldrick’s Foundation helps to fill that gap. That’s why on March 25th Dom Davi will be doing his part to raise funds for the crucial research made possible in part with the money raised by St. Baldrick’s. The foundation says “when you give to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, you help support the work of the world’s very best childhood cancer researchers. We invest your donation wisely with researchers at hundreds of institutions worldwide, not just one hospital, and support the most innovative projects that are leading the way to cures for kids with cancer.”
So far, the Davi’s have exceeded their goal by raising $12,605 for the cause. You too, can join Dom and his family in their effort to help kids with cancer. Dom “Braved the Shave” for kids with cancer on March 25, 1-5PM at St. Agnes Parish Center, Rockville Center, NY. If you want to make a donation to contribute, you still can.
